Music, Before the Chinese New Year Holiday Weekend

There’s been new (but years-old) music on the iPod, and new music news for the never satisfied brain. One-liners here:

Idlewild/Hope Is Important
Roddy Woomble is not the sensitive vocalist, yet, here. He screams, and doesn’t sing as well (as he does now). Best track : When I Argue I See Shapes.

White Stripes/De Stijl
Early Jack and Meg White, in classic rock mode. Not as fetching than the later albums, on the first few times played. Still waiting for the songs to sink in, because it does take time for me for anything Jack and Meg makes *This photo of Meg is my current desktop wallpaper 🙂

Modest Mouse/This Is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About
So far, the best music to listen to for 2006, even if it is a 10 year old album. Its easy to misplace Frank Black (The Pixies) for Isaac Brock on this one. And Exit Does Not Exist owns me.

Sun Kil Moon/Tiny Cities
Mark Kozelek of Red House Painters doing covers again, as Sun Kil Moon, via his typically delicate method. This time, its Modest Mouse songs (!). Sample his short rendition of Exit Does Not Exist here.

I’ve been anticipating the Chinese New Year here in Shanghai, and I heard tonight there’ll be fireworks at The Bund. Why did I ever leave my tripod behind in Bulacan? And why wasn’t I hired earlier so I could afford a DSLR and take pictures of this big-time holiday?

Phooey (yet again).
