Burnt by Isla Verde’s sun over the weekend, nursing a cold-in-progress, I went ahead and still recorded this week’s episode of THE TEN SONG AFFAIR SHOW.

Featuring new songs from Stephen Malkmus, and Portishead, funky stuff from Japanese electro-rock act Sakanaction, ferocity from Don Caballero and the Fleeting Joys, local pop-flavor goodness from Ang Bandang Shirley, and the show-ender are two tracks from my guitar god.

    1. Jolo:

      I’m a sucker for Japanese stuff… From Electro-Rock to Jpop & J-Post-Rock!

      Hahaha Subscribed!

    2. rain:

One thing I noticed with the 2 episodes, at sa tingin ko sa future episodes din:

      Kelangang may post-rock.
      Kelangan may J-music.
      Kelangan may twee.

Hihihihi. Salamat ulet!

    3. Jolo:

Si sarah ba ung sa velocity girl?

    4. rain:

Yep. Got flak for including it, too radio-poppy daw, pero for me, historically important e hehe

    5. Jolo:

      Haha sure :P

    6. drea:

hey, i like the first song :) this is kinda cool… like a dj. congrats :)

    7. rain:

      Thanks for listening Drea :)

Hay, looks like no one CAN understand me, they have to ask me what artist and what song talaga :( Di na lang ako magiimik, play ko lang yung music :/

    8. Yay! I finally listened to the second ep (still have to catch up on the rest, though, hehe).

Anywho, much improved from the first ep. And I don’t know why people have to ask you to specify the artist/song; I understood you clearly. No mumbles this time. =)

My notes (and, no, I didn’t actually take notes haha):
-Sakanaction was interesting; I’ll have to download some other songs of theirs before I form a concrete opinion. Pero the song was super-fun, and it made me dust off my copy of the Cowboy Bebop OST (yes, I have the double album, and yes, I am a nerd).
-Gardenia sounds like it could have been on Cursive’s latest release, which, in my book, is not a bad thing.
-Vampire Weekend is freaking everywhere right now. I don’t buy the hype, though, or maybe nasawa lang ako kasi napaka-overplayed na nung kantang yun dito. Good song, but (to me) nothing special. ^_^V Am I dismissing them prematurely?
-Portishead: Is it wicked not to care? (If you let me know what band that phrase came from, I will give you additional indie cred points haha.) I loved Dummy, but I was ambivalent about the self-titled CD. Deep Water was an ok song, I guess, but nowhere near as evocative as any of the songs on Dummy. (Sorry! Btw, Roads was my favorite song, with the ubiquitous Glory Box a close second. What was/were yours?
-Kudos for including J Mascis and Don Cab. I felt like I was back in high school whilst I was listening to them. Then the songs ended and I was abruptly brought back to earth. :-/

Ngayon, let’s see how well you know me. Guess which song from this ep was my favorite. :)

All in all, great job, Rain. I’m looking forward to listening to the rest. If I could only find the time… =(

      Chayenne:

The Sakanaction albums almost always have half the tracks quite good, half the tracks forgettable.

I haven’t heard Cursive yet. Maybe I should.

I played the Vampire Weekend album 2-3x, and that’s it :)

After reviewing the early 2008 releases, I realized nga na madaming 90s acts na may bagong album. Since I’m thinking the podcast should follow a Not Radio format kahit papa’no, I was thinking I should feature new music from 90s acts. I’m not so hot about the new album as well, and for the life of me, I can’t remember my fave Portishead tracks.

And the line is from B&S :p

I labs J Mascis! He is zee guitar hero, screw the standard-issue guitar gods!

      Thanks Ate :p

    10. jujay:

hindi naman mukang may cold eh
nabitin naman ako kay j mascis

    11. rain:

I wanna be like J Mascis when I grow up :p

    12. jujay:

      ahahahaha unyango. LOL
grown up ka ne eh. tsk tsk.

    13. rain:

      Di pa kaya :p

    14. jujay:

      hmm. eh ano ka?

    15. rain:

Isa akong Rain Contreras, elemento sa mundong ibabaw :p

    16. madcowmoomoo:

This is a nice break from my MP3’s. May sipon daw, you sound the same, nasal!

Kulang na lang eh dyingel! Maybe you can get some of the local bands you take pictures to make a Jingle for your show!

Keep up the good work, baka mamaya di ka na namin maabot!

    17. rain:

Yeah, pero it still worsens the listening experience kahit by a fraction mwahahaha

At di ako ma-drama, excuse me lang LOL

Nye, wala na yung jingle, pero I have been asking a few to listen. Balak ko din kasi mag-guest soon. NAKS

    18. madcowmoomoo:

Pag nag guest ka na, da bess na yan! Parang radio show na talaga! hahahahaha
