About

I am from Bulacan (Philippines), and I hold a degree in Communication Research from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. I’ve worked in the Information Technology industry since 2001, the same year I started weblogging. My interests include vintage cameras, fine art photography, indie music and art films.

My Blogging History

My first entry into blogs began with an account at www.weblogger.com back in 2001. I moved on to a community-oriented blog at Livejournal, which was eventually featured in the February 2003 issue of PC World Philippines (view the article here).

Scouring the web to advance my skills, I acquired a free ASP-based limited hosting account at www.digitalrice.com, and was able to run Movable Type on it, primarily regarded as the leading blog CMS of that time. After garnering enough sense and finances to get paid hosting, I migrated to a Ploghost-hosted sub-account, running on Movable Type (hacked to run in PHP).

Around that time, Movable Type’s parent company, Six Apart, offered existing users of their script an opportunity to beta test TypePad, and I got into the testers list. Later on, the company again offered users to beta-test Movable Type 3.0, and I was again included as one of the testers. I ran the new version on my host for some time, but when Movable Type rolled out paid licencsing, I then opted to run the open-source blog CMS WordPress, which was then creating a buzz among ex-Movable Type users.

I purchased the domain raincontreras.com late 2003.

As of late 2008, this site is now hosted on NearlyFreeSpeech.NET.
