I was with Che and super Effinboiche fan Joby at the first Electro-Rock night at Warehouse 135 in Makati City. And yes, I did want to catch Alex and co. (Effinboiche) again, but I have been curious about Taken By Cars for a long time, too. Oh and Sleepwalk Circus was a surprise; its lovely to know local shoegazing is alive and sounding pretty good as well.

CURATED BY ROBERTO CHABET
OPENING 7:00 PM, AUGUST 31 (FRIDAY) 2007
GREEN PAPAYA ART PROJECTS
EXHIBITION UNTIL SEPTEMBER 22 / GALLERY HOURS: 6-10 PM TUESDAY-SATURDAY
Subverting the process of academic painting, the artist breaks away from the confines of a bordered canvas and extends his painting by incorporating the surrounding spaces around the artwork, from the wall to another artwork to the opposite ends of the gallery, into the artwork itself.
x and m pushes further by manipulating different mass media such as print materials and video, and transform them into a hybrid medium, thereby exhibiting a process of manipulating the manipulator, and questioning the power of manipulation and the persona of the manipulator.

Not a lot to say, except that I planned to just go on a Sunday, and ended up also going the day before to pass the time before the Flickr party.
Photos of the event here.
It all started when Tirong and I saw Effinboiche perform at a cosplay event. I told him: Dude, they have to be from Laguna.
They are, and they easily impressed me with a very promising set of songs, from what looks like a pretty young roster of musicians. A web search was in order, and after some time scouring Youtube for their videos, and finding Alex, their vocalist/guitarist over at Multiply, I asked if they were playing anywhere near Libis, QC soon: they were slated to play at Club Dredd, last Friday.
After a quick talk with the boss about a half-day leave, an aborted mini-reunion with ex-officemates, I did find myself waiting until one in the morning to watch Effinboiche again.
And the story, somehow, continues over at this Multiply blog post.
More photos of the band at this Flickr photo-set.
Effinboiche is online at MySpace, and you can sample the songs over here.
Read a feature on Inquirer about the band, and help and vote for them for the WBOB 2007 with instructions here.
This photo is featured today over at BoingBoing. Its the second time they approved my submission, minus the site downtime.
