Ako’y Batang Malate Photo Exhibit
Do make it a point to visit my second group photo exhibit, and RFilipinas‘ first output.
Ako’y Batang Malate Photo Exhibit
November 9 to 18, 2007
Our Lady of Remedios Parish/Malate Catholic Church
2000 M.H. Del Pilar St., Malate, Manila
Exhibit opening is on November 9, and starts at 7PM.
Thanks!

The making of this project started when musician/voice talent Wam Molina approached the newly formed group of photo/camera enthusiasts who call themselves RFilipinas and brought up the idea of taking photographs of the Malate street children for a possible photo exhibit to be held at the Malate Catholic Parish to coincide with its fiesta in November 2007.
RFilipinas Circa 1930
Movie and TV director Uro dela Cruz recently unearthed old prints and negatives form the 1930s (full story here) from an unknown Teodulo Protomartir -touted as the Farther of Philippine Photography- and what is obviously the predecessor of our group, RFilipinas (Rangefinder Filipinas), the 35MM Club Manila.
I’ve seen the scans and the prints myself, and for anyone who holds photography and its history close to heart, this IS probably the best, most fulfilling fix you can ever imagine. This wasn’t part of any museum exhibit (yet), this is from someone I’ve asked a pansit lucban recipe from.
Me, Shot With A Leica M6
Fete de la Musique 2007

RFilipinas mainstay and percussionist Wam Molina sessioning for Salindiwa
Last time I was at Fete dela Musique, I took these photos. Last week at the multi-stage gig at Malate, I only got to shoot a handful, and spent time with the collective again. Stayed longer at the World Stage, since the other stages were too difficult to shoot without a pass (Universal, Rock), and the other one, I really don’t hold much interest in (Hip-hop).
And remember, this was after I got burnt when the sun was up for the Kapuso Olympics shoot, which, I just found out, I didn’t have to submit pictures to my publishing house sponsor.
Rangefinder Filipinas Updates
Just had what probably is the most cheerful Rangefinder Filipinas (RFilipinas) gathering at Quezon City last friday, where one convert was actually blessed to be sold a Yashica rangefinder camera himself, his first RF.
Picture slideshow from Eddie, our gracious host, can be found here. Other photos from Jay Javier here. All taken with the shooters’ respective Epson RD1s digital RF’s.
RFilipinas’ new project is undeniably a great opportunity for everyone in the group, that its not really a question anymore if we should undertake it. Details to follow when available.

And the old family camera is now working, charged with four LR44 (watch or calculator batteries), and some tinfoil:
This is now my point, focus, and shoot RF camera :)
