After probably half a day of converting my copy of Wes Anderson‘s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou from a dvd to a vcd copy (I constantly do this because our standalone player is media-picky), I relished the joy of seeing Bill Murray on screen again (and I’ve been waiting for this movie since I heard about it).
Good, satisfying two hours, with the aptly-executed CG deep sea animation, generous servings of Bowie songs magnificently sung in Portuguese by Team Zissou member Seu Jorge (a la Joao Gilberto?; Jorge is also seen in Cidade de Deus), Willem Dafoe doing funny, self-depreciating comedy, etc.
Curious spoiler: halfway through the film, Zissou’s ship gets invaded by Filipino pirates. Boo ya.
